Atlin Arts & Music Festival
July 11-13, 2003
Festival Overview
The Atlin Arts & Music Festival is a gathering of hundreds of festival-goers,
performers, artisans, volunteers, and tourists from all over Yukon, Northern
BC, and Southeast Alaska. We welcome all forms of visual and performing
arts.
Music Stage
To date, we have ten Whitehorse performers booked and are securing another
seven performers from Alaska and other parts of Canada.
Our main venue is a 90' x 90' tent at Tarahne Park. This stage
will feature mostly musical acts and will run from late afternoon into
the night. Beer garden is attached. The artisans and craftspeople
will be set up inside and outside the tent.
Arts Stages
Our second stage will be the historic Globe Theatre. This intimate
venue will feature music, storytelling, theatre, children's show, magic,
film, slide show, comedy and other arts that require a focussed audience
and a quiet atmosphere.
An Art Exhibition of Atlin artists will show at the historic Courthouse.
Painting, drawing, song writing, and play writing workshops are scheduled
on Saturday and Sunday. Workshops and Jam Sessions will be
held at the historic M.V. Trainee, Teen Centre, Mineral Springs Gazebo,
and at Kershaw’s Cafe. Workshops, jam sessions, and the Globe stage
will all be running late morning and early afternoon sessions so as not
to conflict with the music stage performances.
Other Activities
the Murder Mystery Dessert Theatre is planned for the Saturday night
at historic Kershaw’s Store.
The Atlin Rec Centre Clubroom will be open for those who wish to have
a drink.
Camping will be available at Tarahne Park, Pine Creek Campground, Norseman
Adventures RV Park, and Palmer Lake and Warm Springs Campgrounds, as well
as overflow lots close to town.
Tarahne Park Playground, right beside the ball diamond, will be available
for children to play in a safe environment.
Of course, Atlin always has the best in hiking, fishing, kayaking,
photographing, and viewing its abundant flora and fauna. Enjoy a
brief swim in the glacier fed waters of Atlin Lake or a soak in the Warm
Springs just south of town. Bike rentals, fishing gear, and maps
are available at Happy Trails.
